2014/2015 Digital video projection, lightshade, turntable, tripod, plastic, MDF
Swimming with Dolphins is the product of two apparatuses constructed around a chrome lightshade. The first was set afloat along with a cluster of Dolphin torches, recording the imagery reflected in the dome. The second operates as a ‘small room immersion device,’ reflecting that abstract video imagery around the gallery space. The work plays with the experiential logics of sensation and immersion. Drawing on both contemporary and historical technologies of vision, including 3D cinema, virtual reality, scientific devices and ‘philosophical toys’ such as zoetropes and anamorphic mirrors, the work seeks to create a spectacle that playfully subverts its own spectacular nature.
